Ride West Virginia

One of the three original HMT systems (Oct 2000), near the ATV-friendly town of Logan. Open to full-size ORVs (Jeeps) as well as ATVs, UTVs and dirt bikes; known for single track and very difficult trails. Staffed trailhead with 2+ acre lot, restrooms, permits and merchandise.

Newer ~50-mile Boone County system in the Peytona area, about 20 minutes from US-119, open to ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes and ORVs/Jeeps. Mostly easy and moderate trails. Trailhead (2+ acre lot) is NOT staffed; permits at the HMT Welcome Center in Julian.

Newer Logan County system that connects to the Town of Man and is reachable from Rockhouse, Devil Anse and Buffalo Mountain. Shares the Rockhouse parking area and staffed trailhead (2+ acre lot, restrooms, permits). Mostly easy/moderate trails.

Original HMT system (Oct 2000) on ground tied to the Hatfield-McCoy feud and the Matewan Massacre. Has the most single-track of any HMT system, making it a dirt bike favorite; three community connectors reach Matewan, Delbarton and Williamson, and it links to Devil Anse, Rockhouse and Braveheart.

Nearly 100 miles of new trails on about 8,300 acres of Cabwaylingo State Forest, open to ATVs, UTVs, ORVs (Jeeps) and dirt bikes. Mostly easy, hard-packed trails make it one of the friendliest HMT systems for beginners. Staffed trailhead with large truck/trailer lot, restrooms, permits; state forest campgrounds nearby.

Trailhead sits in the historic town of Matewan. Links Rockhouse, Braveheart and Buffalo Mountain for 300+ connected miles. Staffed trailhead with parking, restrooms, permits; direct access to gas, food and lodging.

Trailhead in the town of Ashland near Northfork, with community access to Northfork and Keystone. Connects with Pinnacle Creek, Warrior and Pocahontas. Trailhead is NOT staffed (2+ acre lot, restrooms); buy permits beforehand or at Ashland Resort, which is connected to the system.

Closest HMT system to Charleston (about 20 minutes). Open to full-size off-road vehicles like Jeeps and Land Cruisers plus ATVs, UTVs and dirt bikes. Staffed trailhead with 1+ acre lot, restrooms, permits; the HMT Welcome Center is in Julian.

Part of the largest continuous block of the HMT network: connects with Warrior, Indian Ridge and Pocahontas for 400+ combined miles, with direct connections to Mullens and Pineville. Staffed trailhead with 2+ acre lot, restrooms, permits.

Trailhead in Coaldale just outside historic Bramwell, with connectors to Bramwell and Montcalm. Links Indian Ridge, Pinnacle Creek and Warrior, part of what HMT calls the most continuous trail miles east of the Mississippi. Staffed trailhead with 2+ acre lot, restrooms, permits.

Largest single Hatfield-McCoy system (100+ miles) and one of the three original systems (opened Oct 2000). Known for 'extreme' riding and lots of single track; links to Braveheart, Devil Anse and Buffalo Mountain with direct trail access to Man and Gilbert. Staffed trailhead (2+ acre lot, restrooms, permits) shared with Braveheart.

HMT's first single-track-only system: roughly 35 miles open to dirt bikes and e-bikes only, near St. Albans and Charleston. Permits, restrooms and merchandise are at the Coal River Group Welcome Center (181 Pettigrew Lane, St. Albans; 9am-5pm), about 0.5 mile from trailhead parking.

Scenic McDowell County system based in the City of War with access to Gary. Connects with Pinnacle Creek, Indian Ridge and Pocahontas. Staffed trailhead with 2+ acre lot, restrooms, permits; mostly easy and moderate trails.

Wood County park near Parkersburg with about 20 miles of marked ATV/UTV/MX-bike trails on a 600-acre parcel, adjacent to the park campground (Camp N' Ride). Includes a ridge-top overlook and rest area.

10,000-acre private off-road park near Beckley with 100+ miles of trails for dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs and Jeeps. On-site campground, cabins, glamping, general store and SxS rentals. Large Jeep/rock-crawling following plus single track for bikes.

Ranch near Summersville advertising mild-to-wild off-road trails for stock 4x4s, built buggies and rock bouncers, plus campsites and cabins (also hosts equestrian events). Site does not mention ATVs or dirt bikes; UTV listing is an assumption to confirm by phone.

Motocross track set in a southern West Virginia valley near Beckley that uses natural mountain terrain. Also runs mud racing and cross-country (hare scramble/enduro-style) events.

Motocross facility at the Mason County Fairgrounds with a main track, supercross track and beginner/intermediate track. Runs an independent multi-round race series (T&K Promotions) plus weekly practice.

Outdoor motocross track near Wheeling, a few miles from Cabela's, mixing traditional MX with supercross-style rhythm sections and step-ups.

Motocross practice track on Orchard Road in Ballard (Monroe County). Runs announced open practice days and rents the full track to individuals or teams.

Small practice-only motocross track with a half-mile clay/sand natural-terrain layout and a technical woods loop. Open midweek as well as weekends.

West Virginia's best-known motocross facility, a roughly 110-acre park with a main MX track, supercross track, beginner course, quad track and about 8 miles of woods trails for hare scrambles. Hosts a Loretta Lynn's Northeast Area Qualifier (May 2026) and the WV State Championship (Oct 2026).

Motocross and cross-country venue in the hills outside Rivesville between Fairmont and Morgantown off I-79. Has a main MX track, youth track, grass beginner circles and a 6.7-mile woods loop. Access only via Morgan Ridge Rd: GPS may send trailers onto impassable roads.

Whitewater/adventure resort by the New River Gorge offering ATV, UTV, Jeep and motorcycle tours on 100+ miles of resort trails. Tour/rental format rather than bring-your-own riding.

Private property near Newburg in Preston County that hosts the Buckwheat 100, the GNCC series finale since 2020, and local racing before that. Open-field pitting and camping on race weekend.

Ski resort on Cheat Mountain that hosts a round of the GNCC cross-country series every summer (since 2007), with a start in the resort village.
